Drawing #1 of 100

Here is my first drawing of Fritz. I intend to do 100 drawings of the dogs (both Fritz and Gordy) to improve my drawing skills. Today the dogs, tomorrow....maybe people. Who knows? As far as a time limit, I would hate to say a drawing a day because I know that I will fail in that. Maybe 100 drawings in a year or less. That gives me some wiggle room, 3+ days for each drawing if necessary. I would like to see how close I can get to the 100 day mark, though. It would be incredible if I got them done by the end of August. If you would like to join me in doing a hundred drawings of the subject of your choice, just add your name to Mr. Linky here and we will encourage one another!

  1. This is a great challenge. I am totally up to it! I will draw my dog Ruby 100 times. BTW, instead of trying to do one drawing per day, I am going to try to complete at least 10 drawings per week. I find this approach much more productive rather than just doing one drawing at a time. Thanks for sharing your challenge. I'll be posting soon!

  2. You've gotten off to a great start-this is wonderful! Can't wait to see what they look like late in the game! I'm thinking of jumping in here...just trying to think of a topic first. I'll be back later with my decision! Sounds fun!

  4. We are really feeling encouraged at our house to have some others to jump in with us. I have noticed that while I have been trying to do the Every Day in May challenge, my drawings seem to be improving... and let me tell you, there was LOTS of room for improvement. It will be fun to see how this goes. It will probably take me twice as long as everyone else since I have the equivalent of two full time jobs, but I will tackle this in the mornings. Drawing makes me happy!!

  6. Okay, okay....let's see. 100 self-portraits!!

I wanted to do dogs, but I no longer have one to sketch, sadly. I thought of cats, but ours is so uncooperative most of the time. So, you get to see me!

  8. Beautiful drawing of your dog! I am currently working on doing 100 birds before the end of the year! Check them out on my blog. I threw in a squirrel, a few mice and a rabbit when I got tired of birds, but I'm back to birds now!

  11. Couldn't find an email to answer you with about the drawing lessons. I don't give drawing lessons but I have thought about it. When I get my new iphone which takes videos, I may have my husband video me and put a series of short lessons on utube! I'll post it when I do. I think you draw wonderfully and practice is the best thing I can tell you. Really LOOK at what you are drawing. Try drawing from photos. Try tracing a photo several times before you try to draw it on paper. It will give you a feel for what is really there. Look at the negative space around your object and try drawing that instead of your subject. That REALLY helps you see the edges clearly! Good luck!

  12. Thank you, Revelle! It would be great to see videos of you drawing. I will try the tracing...never thought of that before.

Raena, my daughter has a blog at http://emmycheeseburger.blogspot.com/. She is the second person in the list of links, Emily Eichelberger. She is a sophomore in high school.

  13. Ello! Thats a great idea. I think I will try 100 drawings of my hometown, trying to capture its varied character and share my favourite places (and improve my drawing too, here's hoping) Looking forward to seeing everyones' drawings too.

  15. This is a phenomenal sketch. Fritz's sparkling eyes - such character! I cannot begin to imagine number 50 or number 99. I would love to join your challenge, but no time, no time. (Maybe I'll do, say, 30). I will follow along though.

  18. Just by chance I decided to draw 100 dogs! I have done 100 hands, horses and cats in the past inspired by rozworks daily dot drawings. She drew her dog everyday for 5 years! Cool to find your 100 challenge! I'm doing the ED in May thing too!
    Continued success!
